Leighton på "The Talk"
Leighton pratar om The Oranges och slutet på GG.
For someone facing major career upheaval, Leighton Meester is cool, calm, and collected. To most, Meester is synonymous with Blair Waldorf, the almighty overlord of the Upper East Side on Gossip Girl. While fans have been emotionally preparing for the harsh reality of the show’s final season, Meester’s focus is squarely on her future. In her new film The Oranges Meester plays Nina, a globetrotting party girl from New Jersey who returns home and gets tangled up in a scandalous affair with her father’s best friend, played by Hugh Laurie. We recently sat down with Meester to talk about the film, life after Gossip Girl, and Blake Lively’s wedding, obviously.
The Oranges deals with finding happiness in unexpected ways and places. How do you relate to that and what does happiness mean to you?
I think happiness comes in many forms. I think this film explores that in a really interesting and approachable way. Sometimes catastrophic and seemingly awful things have to happen before you can truly understand your growth and what happiness means. I think that a really good example is David is in a relationship that he’s not happy in, and Nina is traveling around and with all the wrong people doing all the wrong things to try to escape her home, and she had to go home to find what she truly wanted and he had to end a marriage that was comfortable in order to find happiness and things can’t always stay the same. Change is actually what brings happiness the most because if you’re staying the same and you want to find happiness in your situation and you’re not, you need a change.

Leighton i Brittiska Cosmopolitan (Oktober 2012)
Leighton Meester shows off her back on the cover of British Cosmopolitan‘s October 2012 issue, on newsstands and available as a digital edition September 13.
Here is what the 26-year-old Gossip Girl actress had to share with the mag:
On not wearing makeup: “I don’t care if there are a million pictures of me with no makeup. I love being able to walk down the street without it. We should promote women not having to wear makeup, or at least feel we can go out without it.”
On comparing her style to Blair Waldorf’s: “I’ve never seen Blair with the same bag, coat or shoes twice. I don’t know anyone who had that. I had two pairs of jeans [when I was a teenager] that I rotated. I wouldn’t trust myself with a Prada brag! I didn’t even want to change for gym so I’d wear sweatpants over my jeans, then sweat around the track for an hour.”
On being awkward around people: “If I’m not around close friends or family, I can get quiet and awkward, and it probably comes off as not very nice or just plain weird! It’s not meant to. I try to pull myself out of it but sometimes it’s hard for me to open up. In the past it was easier for me to trust people. Nowadays I judge pretty quickly: ‘You just want to be my friend because I’m on a TV show.’”

PREVIOUSLY ON… | Blair tracked Chuck down in Monte Carlo in the hopes of reconciling, a broken Serena left town in a haze of sex and drugs, Nate asked Lola to move in with him and Rufus and Lily went their separate ways.
COMING UP NEXT | After a brief opening act to tie up some of the loose ends from last May’s cliffhanger, the show’s final 10-episode season jumps forward four months and promptly launches into a new mystery. “Serena is missing,” reveals exec producer Stephanie Savage. “No one has heard from her, not even Gossip Girl. She’s truly off the map. So the gang has to get together to try and find her.” S eventually resurfaces on the arm of a new, more mature beau, played by 7th Heaven vet Barry Watson. “He lets Serena be herself,” notes Savage, “which is something that she really needs right now.” Blair, meanwhile, finally realizes she needs Chuck — and vice versa. “They now understand what it would mean for them to be together,” says exec producer Sara Goodman, adding that they first have to figure out “what they need as separate people” before they can fully commit. The main theme of the season is “adulthood,” says Savage. “High school is long in the past and they’re thinking about who they want to be and how they want to be.”
TVLINE BONUS SPOILER | Although she won’t technically be a series regular, Michelle Trachtenberg will have a bigger presence as Georgina than in any previous season.
